A rider on the crest at dawn, in layered cut-paper shapes
Dawn has only just broken over the Bealach na Ba. A lone rider sits on a small motorbike right on the crest of a ridge, a dark figure with a splash of orange on the tank. Below, a pale road loops back and forth down the hillside, and behind it the sea loch shines cream and silver out to the far hills. The sky above is streaked with amber and deep teal.
The picture is built from flat, layered shapes, a bit like cut paper, in navy, brown, cream and orange. There is no fussy detail, so it reads clearly from across a room. It suits anyone who loves a mountain pass, or has this one on their list. It hangs well in a hallway, a study or above the desk where someone plans their next trip.
The tall version keeps the whole sky. The wider formats, like canvas, metal and wood, drop most of the sky and start at the water, so the rider and the winding road fill the frame. The mug shows the full picture. More roads like this one sit on our great roads page.
