Ride-out route card maker

Running a ride-out for the club? Type each turn with its distance from the start. The card numbers them, works out the miles between each one and prints on a clean A4 sheet.

How to use it

Ride or map the route first and note the trip meter at each turn. Then type one instruction a line: the distance from the start, a space, then what to do. "14.6 Left at the war memorial" is one line. The card works out the distance from the last instruction for you, so a rider can zero a trip meter at each turn if they like.

Start at the cafe, end at the cafe: the card does the counting in between.

What the card shows

ColumnWhat it means
No.The instruction's number, in order
TotalThe distance from the start, as you typed it
IntervalThe distance since the instruction before
InstructionWhat to do there

If a distance is smaller than the one before it, the card says so, because it usually means a typing slip. Up to 80 instructions fit, and each can be up to 120 characters.

Printing it

Press Print and the card comes out on A4 on its own, without the rest of this page. At the bottom is a line that should measure 50 mm. Hold a ruler to it: if it's shorter or longer, your printer has scaled the page, so print again at actual size (100%). The ride name, date and start go at the top.

A narrow road climbing a dry hillside in tight hairpin bends, stone walls on the outside of each bend.
One card per rider, in a tank bag or a jacket pocket.

Sharing the card

Nothing you type is stored. Your route rides along in the page's web address, so copying that address hands the whole card to your back marker. Planning the fuel stop? Our motorcycle fuel cost calculator works out the group's petrol, and the group riding signal card prints the signals you agree at the briefing.

Questions answered

How do I make a route card for a motorcycle ride-out?

Type each turn on its own line: the distance from the start, then the instruction. The card numbers them and works out the distance between each.

Can I print the route card?

Yes, on A4. It carries a 50 mm line so you can check the printer kept the size.

Is my route stored anywhere?

No. It stays in your browser and in the link in your address bar.
